Amarnath

Amarnath is located in Jammu and Kashmir and is just 14 km away from Srinagar. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the important religious destinations for all the Hindus. 

Furthermore, the temple is located on a mountain at an altitude of 3,888 m. It is not a temple made up of bricks and cement but it is a cave. The holy cave has a 10 to 12 feet high Swayambhu ice Lingam that rises and decreases in size according to the Lunar cycle.

Now according to the legends, it is said that Lord Shiva told the story of immortality to his wife Parvati in this cave because she wanted to be immortal just like him. And as listening to this story makes one immortal, hence lord shiva choose this cave so that other than Parvati nobody else could hear it. But still, two pigeons who were already hiding in the cave listened to it and it is said that these two pigeons are still present here.

Moreover, In the cave, Goddess Mahamaya is also worshipped. She is a form of Sati’s throat and Anklet.

Mathura is located in Uttar Pradesh and was a birthplace of Lord Krishna. According to legends,  It is this place where to protect the people from heavy rains, God Krishna picked a huge Govardhan Parvat on his little finger so that people can remain safe under its cover.

There is also a belief that at night in Nidhivan, Krishna along with Gopis come here to play Raas Leela. There is also a Rang Mahal where Krishna rests after the dance.

Furthermore, In Mathura, there is a Dwarkadheesh temple where a black marble idol of Lord Krishna and white idol of his wife Rukmani is in it. This religious destination also has a beautiful Gita Mandir whose walls are perfectly inscribed by holly words of Bhagwat Gita.

Tirumala

Tirumala is a town located in the state of Andhra Pradesh and the Sri Venkateshwara Temple of its is the richest temple in the world. hence Tirumala is one of the richest religious destinations of India.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and has an 8 feet tall idol of him. Furthermore, the temple is located on a hilltop that is shaped like seven heads of Adisesha. Adishesha is a serpent who is a servant of Lord Vishnu.

Furthermore, there is also a hill known as Garuda hill that looks like Vishnu’s Vahan Garud.

Devotees worship Lord Vishnu with different names like Venkateshwara or Balaji. The Jagatpita Brahma Mandir is 2000 years old temple near Pushkar lake. Furthermore, According to the legends, The Lake was formed when a petal of Lord Brahama’s favourite lotus fell on this place.

The temple structure is made up of Marble and there are 52 bathing ghats.

Puri 

Puri is located in the state of Odisha and is considered as one of the Char Dham of India. It is dedicated to Lord Jagannath who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. There are also other two deities in the temple named as Balabhadra and Subhadra.

The temple was constructed in 1078 and the deities are made up of neem wood. There are various mysterious related to the temple like the flag flowing in the opposite direction of the wind. Furthermore, if you look at the Sudarshan Chakra that is located on the top of the temple, you will find that it will appear the same no matter from which side you see it. Also, no bird flies over the temple. One more interesting thing about the temple is that it doesn’t have a shadow. Thus Puri is one of the mysterious religious destinations of India.

According to Mythology and Puranas, Goddess Subhadra wanted no noise in the temple that’s why one can’t hear the sound of the sea waves when they enter the temple. 

An annual 9 days Rath (Chariot) Yatra of all the three deities takes place to reach the Devi Gundicha temple. The wooden Chariot is beautifully decorated and the yatra takes place in a very organised manner.

Sabrimala

Sabrimala is located in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala and is situated on a hill. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. 

According to the Puranas, Lord Ayyappa was created by the power of Lord Shiva and Vishnu’s incarnation Mohini to kill the demon Mahishi.

The temple is surrounded by eight beautiful hills and the temple got its name as Sabrimala due to Lord Rama’s devotee Sabrimala who used to live there during the epic Ramayana period.

The temple opens only for few days and that too only on specific special occasions such as Mandalapooja, Makara Sankranti, Maha Vishuva Sankranti, and the first five days of Malayalam calendar

Kedarnath

The town is located in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand and the Kedarnath temple is considered as one of the Char Dham of Uttarakhand as well as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and According to the Puranas, Temple was built by Pandavas and later on it was renovated by Adi Shankara.

The shrine is made from grey stone and the construction of the temple is so strong that none of the calamities can hamper it. The recent example was the flood that hampered the entire town but was not able to hamper the temple.

Nathdwara

The Nathdwara is a town in Rajasthan and is 48 Km near to Udaipur city. It is famous for its Shrinathji temple that is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The deity is in the form of a 7-year-old child.

According to history,  The idol was shifted from Vrindavan to Nathdwara to protect it from getting destroyed by Emperor Aurangzeb.

According to the legends, the wheel of the chariot that was carrying the deity was stuck in a place where today the temple is.

The deity is made from black stone and is very beautiful in looking. 

One more fascinating thing about the temple is that it has 500 cows out of which one cow is direct descendent of Lord’s own cow.

Golden Temple

The temple is located in the Amritsar city of Punjab state and is also called as “Sri Harmandir Sahib” 

Sri Harmandir Sahib is a sacred place for the Sikhs. However, people from other religions also come to the Golden temple to take the blessings of God.

The architect of the temple was The Fifth Sikh Guru Arjan Sahib and he built the temple in 1581. However, in 1830, Maharaja Ranjit Singh renovated the temple. 

The upper part of the temple is pure gold and the Lower part is white marble. Furthermore, there are various mesmerizing designs on the walls like golden leaves, flowers, birds, etc.

Bodh Gaya Village is located in Gaya district of Bihar. This was the place where Gautum Buddha purified his mind from the three poisons known as Tanha (Craving), Dvesha (Aversion), and Avidya (Ignorance). Thus, he attended enlightenment. Moreover, the Peepul tree where he was meditating was later named as Bodhi tree.

The Bodhi tree is located in the Mahabodhi Temple. It was built by Samrat Ashoka in 3rd century BC. Also, the temple is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Furthermore, The temple structure consists of bricks and has a 55 meters high tower in its centre. One more incredible thing is that there is a beautiful lotus pond in the vicinity of the temple where Gautum Buddha has stayed for a week.

Moreover, in these months, a three day- Buddha Mahotsav takes place where various religious and cultural events take place. Also, sermons of the Gautam Budha are recited and listening to it gives one wisdom.

Haridwar

Haridwar is located in the city of Uttarakhand and is famous for its Kumbh Mela. 

River Ganga from the Himalayas first comes down here and then from here it spreads to the other parts of India. 

One more interesting thing about the Haridwar is the Ganga Aarti that takes place on the Har ki Pauri ghat where the Mantras are recited, bells are rung, and the ghat is lightened up with diyas. Furthermore, the aarti of the river Ganga happens every day early in the mornings and in the evenings.
